The Bosphorus is an important omithological area of Turkey and can be considered one of the principal bird migration routes of Europe. This study was carried out on January 19,2002 as a part of international periodic survey of the wetland birds. Point sampling, a standard method of bird counting, was used. As a result of this study 13 bird species were determined belonging to 8 families. The objective was to determine the number of the birds during the winter on the Bosphorus and to analyse their long-term population dynamics.
