Especially Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara regions have pure type Pinus brutia Ten. stands in Turkey. These stands are very suseeptible to forest flres beeause of the suitable combistion eonditions stern from the elimatic features and the fuel type of the regions. The great majority of the forest fire s oceur in these regions are eaused by human being. Forest fires are stili a supressing problem in Turkey. Althought the number of fires was high betwecn 1976 and 1985, the amount of total burned area deereased because of the aplieation of modern fire supperssion sistems and organization.
