Mountain regions make up about orıe-fourth of the Earth's land surface and about one tenth of humankind Iives in mountainous regions. Necessity of providing life, property security of inhabitants and more touristic contribution in winter season makes protective function of forests more important for performing against snow avalanches. Due to the current situation in many European countries, clearcutting has been prohibited since more than one century. The characteristics of snow cover undemeath forest canopy, avalanche-forest relations and avalancheforestry activity interactions were explained and discussed in this study.
