Despite newand ever-changing technological improvements, it seems that paper and book will keep their place and importance as carriers of knowledge, or, in other words, as documcnts. Libraries, too, are common places which collect, preserve, conserve and keep the documents in order to present the m to the use of their readers. This paper gives a brief development history of paper, book and libraries throughout the world and in Turkey.
