Wood is the maiıt energy rcsource consumed for space heating in Turkey. More than 60 percent of the wood produced in Turkey is being used as fuel, whereas this percentage is only 25 percent or less in the developed countries. It is proposed that the fuehvood consumption should be reduced in Turkey down to 25 percent and the portion used as a ra\v matcrial for the industry should be increascd. In Bolu region \vood being consumed as fuel in the forest villages. This kind of consumption can be reduced by rationalizing the insulation and heating system of the houses, and by substituting it with the alternative energy sources as natural gas, coal, elcctricity ete. Also, fuehvood is being consumed mainly by local enterprises dealing in poultry in Bolu and this destroys the forest. Therefore, destruetive effects of the poultry breeding in and around the forest has to be eliminated immediately.
