Riparian areas around surface water resources co ver a smail percentage of the forests, but theyare extremely important for wildlife, biodiversity. aquate life, and the people. Riparian are as have always relatively distinct fauna and flora from adjacent areas. These areas are one of the most desired places by animals for food and shelter. Riparian forest buffers also filter water, help reduce floods, stabilize streambanks, shade streams, and play a very important role in mitigating the effects of nonpoint source pollution. All the forestry activities in or around riparian areas such as site preparation, forest road construction, forest harvesting, and regeneration method must be carried out by keeping in mind their values and functions. In this study ripari an c1assification for forestry purpose, the widths of riparian reserve zone and riparian management zone, and recommended forestry activities in ripari an areas have been discussed.
