Deterioration affects the value of wood for different uses. Logs should be processed as soon as possible after felling, especialy in warrn climatic conditions and until beeing processed, measures must be taken to maintain wood quality of logs. Principal losses from prolonged wood storage in the forest or on the landing are decay, discolorations (both chemical and biotic), insect damage, and deep checking. Dry land storage is recomended only for short periods. 'When needed to store for longer period s, soaking is the best way to keep logs. Until recently, storage losses have been ignored due to low cost and abundance of wood and absenee of precise imformation on the cost of the losses of high value products. The development of storage to minimize deterioration losses will become important to wood using industries as wood raw-rnaterial costs inerease. In this study, main types of storage loses, forest enterprise depots, and storage techniq ues were evaluated.
