This paper reviews the studies on the utilization ofbark carried out in Turkeyand also gives details about general characteristics of bark. Although studies on bark have received attention since ı950'5, considerable amount of research was concluded in the 1970's. Most of the studies on bark are relatively review papers; however recent studies give novel approaches to use of bark in composite materials such as particle board and fiber board, and also include chemical characterization of bark. However, there is a lack of information on bark production techniques and storage and protection of bark residues. A few studies on industrial usage of bark in Turkey indicates that bark has not received enough attention in the country.
