The Galatian Volcanic Province (GVP) is one of the four major Miocene volcanic areas of Anatolia and is very rich in fossil wood diversity. In this study, a sample taken from an in-situ fossil tree in Beypazarı-Aşağıgüney fossil forest was examined and identified as a new fossil wood species. The identified specimen was named as Myricoxylon unalakkemikii H.Çelik sp. nov. The new fossil wood is the second Myrica species and differs from the previous species in having larger rays and perforated rays and very sparse longitudinal parenchyma. The presence and distribution of the genus Myrica in different localities indicate that VU3-VU4, which represent swampy and riparian conditions, were also present in different parts of the region. Previous studies and the present one showed that new fossil woods from the GVP can reveal new fossil wood species.
