In this paper. the main objective is to give a brief information about current range rnanagement problems, discuss the factors that caused range degradation, and evaluate the range managernent works thaı need to be conducted for the rehabilitation of degraded range sites in Turkey. Rangelands encompass about 27.2 % of the lands in Turkeyand 82 % of which generally lies in the serni-arid regions and can be categorized into 7 groups based on their climatic regime, grazing period. and forage production. Stocking rates range between 0.3 and 3.9 AU/ha. Current range management problems mainly consist of: i) lack of effective legislations for rangelands, 2) no grazing system has been applied in the rangelands, 3) unavailableness of sufficient labour and financial effort to rehabilitate degraded rangelands, 4) lack of a land use policy, 5) unsufficient developments in animal husbandry, and 6) finally, uncertainty on size of rangeland due to incomplete land survey. To solve range management problems in Turkey, fırst step of urgent measures should be enforcement of the law that will prevent illegal uses and land abuses in rangelands and the second one should be application of principals of grazing management to improve range condition and productivity.
